Weighton
- Tracksuit
The cottwton tracksuit Weighton supports the work of the shoulder girdle and helps parents encourage their babies to support themselves.
Laying on the belly and applying light pressure in the right place helps your baby to work against the force of gravity, push off the ground and strengthen the shoulder girdle. As a result, the toddler achieves better head control and a greater ability to see the world, while getting stronger every day.
Weighton is in charge of the light pelvic pressure. It lives in a pouch located in a pocket designed at the back of the leggings, at the level of the sacrum. Weighton provides stability and greater mobility of the shoulder girdle during fun times on the tummy. The pouch insert is made of fine glass granules, used in weighted quilts, among other things. The weights of the pouches are matched to the size of the child. The gentle weight load above the sacrum makes it easier to push off with the arms, and the non-slip pads on the forearms stabilise the position of the elbows under the shoulders.
We have created the black Weighton set from soft cotton knitted fabric designed by Magda with original prints by illustrator Karolina

Flexion position? What is it? When?
The flexion position is the baby’s most natural position, resulting from the positioning in the womb. During the first three months of life, flexion patterns predominate, at which point the distribution of muscle tension can be disrupted. This is why it is so important to take care of the infant properly and to perform symmetrical nursing, feeding, lifting, carrying, putting down, dressing and bathing. The baby needs equal stimulation from all sides to ensure normalising the muscle tension. Symmetrical care aims to bring about a balance between the flexors and extensors so that all the baby’s movements are smooth and the motor skills are spontaneous. All reflexes in the child’s body integrate as the nervous system matures, and they allow the child to reach the next developmental stages. Such maturity is individual and every child needs time to develop so it is pointless to rush it. It is worth simply accompanying, supporting and helping the child during this time.
Why encourage babies to prop themselves up?
Initially, when the baby lies on the belly, the centre of gravity is located on the cheek. This is due to the flexed position that the baby has been in since birth. With time, the body stretches out and the centre of gravity shifts towards the back. The more babies support themselves on their forearms, the more the centre of gravity also shifts towards the back. Pressing into the ground is very difficult for the child, so a slight weight bearing on the sacrum shifts the weight backwards, making it easier for the child to support him- or herself. When pushing into the ground, the scapula is correctly positioned and lowered at the same time. This has an important effect on the dissociation of upper limb work. Toddlers start to stabilise the scapula on their own and can move their hands towards the toy. The dissociation of the work of the upper limb in relation to the scapula is crucial for fine motor skills and the formulation of a correct grip.
